Odontoglossum gloriosum: to bloom or not to bloom
Hello 2 everyone!
I've found a strange object on my Ody, the place of this growth is fine for a spike but I'm not sure because of its shape. So it is a spike or not? http://www.kephost.com/images4/2012/...8azde8pk7b.jpg |
OOooh, How exciting. I have none of these plants so I can't say for sure but...if I had to say I would say spike as it is coming from the right place!! Keep us posted.
|
Can't be sure - looks kind of fat, like new growth, but is the right spot for a spike. I have had new growth on Onc alliance poke up in that spot on occasion tho. Looks to be hung up a bit in the bract foliage. What does the tip look like?
|
It is a lanceolate growth which comes out curved from the gap between the leaf and the pseudobulb. The growing tip touches tightly the leaf.
I looked through the leaf while holding the plant towards light and saw that growth curves. |
Oh well never mind, new growth means more flowers to come next time.

UPDATE:

I guess it looks like a spike. Well done!!!
|
Congrats, you have a spike!
|
This is definetly a spike. I have a odontoglossum gloriosum too but it is not doing well. whats your culture tips?
|
It looks like a spike to me also, even though I don't (or, more correctly, can't!) grow odontoglossums. Very exciting. Looking forward to seeing pictures of the blooms.
