Medium for cymbidium backbulb?

Hi everyone,

I have a cymbidium backbulb which has sprouted and is now putting out roots. Can someone recommend a good potting medium for the baby plant? My big cymbidiums are potted in a mix of bark, CHC and perlite, but I feel like that's a little dry for the smaller plant. Should I add spagnum to the mix? Thank you,

elbereth

how about smaller bark chips?

How trying about semi-hydroponics?

I got the idea of it upon starting cymbidium back bulbs in perlite with standing water at the bottom...

Cym BBs will do just fine in your existing mix of bark, CHC and perlite. Just water more frequently as you should be potting the BB in a 3" or 4" pot which will dry out faster than larger pots.

I use my rescue mix (handful medium bark, handful charcol, handful sponge rock or lava cinder, small handful good quality peatmoss). But I put in more fine bark and chop up some spagnum moss (1/2 inch long) and mix that in to keep the new roots damp. Not wet, just damp. Works every time.

BBs will actually sprout in a warm area of the house when sealed in a Zip Lok bag to which a little moisture has been added...
