Is a WiLs. Aloha Sparks 'Halloween' an oncidium?

I've got to stop doing this. :nono:I get onto Ebay and am sunk. So yeah, I have gotton another one, this time I think it's an oncidium. No, no pics yet, no blooms either, just "a bloom size orchid" In the photo on line it looked like some sort of ocidium, or maybe another inter generic one. ?? If anyone out there has one, what is the culture? I did get some info from the grower, but I trust you guys way more.:lovesite I'll google it, just wondering if I'd get a quicker answer here...:think2:

That plant is also intergeneric:

Wilsonara, abbreviated as Wils. in the horticultural trade, is the nothogenus for intergeneric hybrids between the three orchid genera Cochlioda, Odontoglossum and Oncidium (Cda. x Odm. x Onc.)

How in the world do you know this stuff? I am amazed.:bowing Did you study it? Or is this a natural retention of what I feel is pretty scientific stuff. Do you do this for a living? I know, none of my buisness:blushing:...thank you. :thanx:

Oncostele [Ons.] (syn. Vuylstekeara or Vuyl.) Aloha Sparks

The above is the RHS nomenclature. I have a Wilsonara Aloha Sparks - Ruby Red Eyes

a lot of info is available through a programme called OrchidWiz. Google it - they may still have a 30 day free trial.....

I was able to get a list of abreviations from one of the member posting here...and it also says the origins of the orchid genus it came from...you can also go to RHS site and search for your orchid according to tag and it will give you the parents of your plant, the date it was registered and the name of the person who registered it(breeder)

I use Wikipedia alot for delving into complex intergeneric hybrids to find out what genera are in their make-up.
Unfortunately, I think a lot of the Onc alliance intergeneric names I am familiar with have been changed :p

I actually have this exact Orchid! It's a pretty consistent Spring bloomer for me. In fact, it's in bloom right now. They don't last that long, maybe two months.. Have fun!

2 months is still a long time in my book. 'Not a long time' is orchids that bloom only for a week or two... Very nice intergenetic, I like the color.
