Which Dendrobium am I?
Hey everybody,
I got this orchid a while back and I lost the tag. I'm not for sure which species it is. I got sick and it dried up and lost its leaves. I'm pretty sure I remember it being a miniature. The person I got it from recommended it for vivarium use. Now, since it's been in my vivarium it is putting out some new growth and lots of new roots. The leaves it had before they fell off were about 3inches in span and they looked just like the leaf on the very right in the first picture. The leaves have got a little bit of yellow on them but I think it might be getting too much light. I had it closer to the waterfall but it was getting too much water. I'm hoping for that fern to shadow it somewhat. http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...ds91207070.jpg http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...ds91207069.jpg http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...ds91207072.jpg Any guesses? Thanks |
I have no idea, but it looks like you are taking very good care of it.

It does look very healthy now and liking it's new environment. Can't help with the name...never in bloom???

I'll post as soon as that happens. Before I just had it in the apartment in some sphagnum and then I got sick and it dried out. I thought I lost it because it lost all of the two leaves that it had before(they were bigger than the ones now). But, the bulbs it had were still there so I put it in the tank and here is the new growth.
I guess the reason why I've been so worried about this little one is that it had new growth once before but the leaves turned yellow and died. I think I figured out that it was too close to the waterfall. I moved it back and now it seems to be doing well. There is still a hint of yellow though..... I plan on letting things dry a bit during this coming season. So, I'm sure it will enjoy that. |
I think you have done the right move for this little guy. I as well have lost leaves to the pseudo and placed in a sphag/bag which is comparative to your now environment and it did well...not expecting much in blooms this coming year but hey, nursing back to health as we do ourselves worth the wait in gold...hope your feeling better. Ever thought that your dend is closer to you than you think...you were under the weather and so was your dend....good health to the both of you's.
I would not worry to much about the hint of yellowing, it will come around, just keep an eye on a change of coloration to the frightful change of brown/black at that point I would merely clip the leaf just behind the coloration put a dab of cinnamon and your good as new. :bananaslide: |
Here is an update of this little guy. It's doing well except for that one leaf turning yellow. I've added another fan for more ventilation and I'm also turning the waterfall off for a few days at a time at least once a month.
