A Dendrobium moschatum var. coloratum for your enjoyment
I'm not a dendrobium person at all. I tried dendrobiums but for some reason I never really got into them. This is, along with another species, is the exception. I absolutely love the delicate blooms, and the colors are to die for.
I bought this from Featherstone Orchids in May 2011. I was going to cut off the old, old canes (which seem dead to me)(not pictured) but as I was inspecting the plant (as I routinely do) I noticed that tiny little keikis are forming on the old canes. Can you imagine this with keikis---Be still my heart! http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8012/7...56d93387_b.jpg These are two new growths. The buds form and bloom at an impressively fast rate. Unfortunately, the blooms don't last very long, but I suppose the beauty of them makes up for that. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7213/7...5c930b8e_b.jpg This is a picture of the back of the blooms. Notice the peachy color. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7239/7...3527b654_b.jpg The furry pouch..... http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5200/7...260849d3_b.jpg A cascade of flowers: http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7220/7...3cec1a7d_b.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7237/7...753e3320_b.jpg |
