A Myrmecophila albopurpurea for your enjoyment
I bought this in January 2011 from Jewell Orchids.
In May 2011, it looked like this--It had only one spike and not may flowers on the spike: http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5070/5...15d17032_b.jpg http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5187/5...dfe8c4b04d.jpg TODAY, it looks like this--It produced two spikes, and, instead of only 2 flowers per spike, it produced 7. Unfortunately, someone broke the second spike. The blooms are bigger and open more fully: http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8164/7...106ceed5_b.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7105/7...d545b3e5_b.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7091/7...2a48e336_b.jpg |
Beautiful flowers. I like the ruffles on the lip and sepals...the colors are striking.

Beautiful!

Very nice! How big are the p-bulbs? I have a seedling labeled thompsoniana, but I guess they usually end up being albopurpurea. I'm curious as to when it will finally bloom.

Those are some very nice flowers. The white and deep red/purple go great together and are really nice. Tell that someone to stay away from your orchids ;) I'll have to look into finding one of these. I've read about them but no one has thrown one away yet. Dang!!!
