new terrarium- live moss
http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p...terrarium2.jpg
I picked up a bag of live sphagnum from Hawaiian Botanicals and spread it on the bottom of my terrarium on top of a layer of moist dried sphagnum. I like the way it looks and it keeps the humidity higher, I think! Also, my Pleurothallis grobyi is blooming, and my Barbosella handroii ain't far behind! |
looking nice. As long as you don't add fertilizer the moss should grow nicely. Do you have an evacuation hole at the bottom? Did you make the terrarium or buy it?

There's no drainage hole, but there wouldn't be anything to drain- the moss is always moist but never actually wet. |
Very cool!

That is really cool! Nice Job!! :)
Just as a possible warning- i read this somewhere, can't remember where now, that if u have orchids growing on (not sure about around- prob not an issue) live sphagnum they could be poisoned by it when/if it dies (not sure about a reaction while its alive tho) but just in case, if i were u, i would keep these separate until i found out more... I Really hope that i'm wrong, :crossfing b/c u have some beautiful 'chids! :) |
very nice looking case

When Spagnum moss detoriate it become acidic. It also easily become very compact and soggy.
This only apply to orchid potted in spagnum. |
