Bare root seedlings. WHAT TO DO?
Being fairly new to this whole orchid obsession, I have somehow managed to go from 0 to 9 in just over a month. (3 phals, 6 Aus Den Seedlings)
I have just ordered 4 more seedlings off ebay , but they are being sent to me bare rooted:(. They are: DEN (DEBBIE McFARLANE X FRANKIE SIE ) X TANGERINUM 'GOLDIE' DENDROBIUM CONANTHUM - SEEDLING SPECIES DEN DANDY DAME X SELF and finally for a bit of variety ENCYCLIA CORDIGERA 'PALE' X CAXIMBOENSES I just could not resist the twisted petals and the colorways! But now I am a bit confused with what to do with them. I have received all my other orchids in their (happy) medium. And from within the same area I reside. These are coming from the other (warmer) end of the country and were potted in rock which cannot be used as a shipping medium. These new babies, I just don't know what to pot them into. I know I should use teeny pots, that's what my other seedlings are in. But what sort of mix for baby den roots? and the Encyclia hybrid? I really need to stop buying, but I just can't seem to stop looking, which as we all probably know leads to... :D |
I should also add that I have till mid next week when they arrive to figure out what to do.

Fine bark or chc mix, or sphag. Small (tiny) pots dry quickly, and babies can't withstand under (or over) watering a bit like more mature plants can.
Good luck! |
