Dendrobium flower with red or blue colour
Hello everyone,
My real name is Ichiro Miyazawa and I’m writing this message from Japan. I’m a new member of this site. Nice to meet you. I started growing one Dendro. one and half years ago, so I am a beginner. My Dendro. made a flower with white color this winter. I succeeded. I really pleased. I bought another 5 Dendro. orchids this winter. And now, I am looking forward their blooming next winter. About the Dendro. I have, I'll let you know the details later. By the way, I am looking for the Dendro. with red or blue flower. If it's not too much trouble for you, please let me know about it. |
(dark red)
Dendrobium Suzanne Neil (Dendrobium Imelda Romualdez x Dendrobium Bertha Chong) (blue) Dendrobium victoria-reginae *the nearest to blue color=since theres no orchid that is pure blue=its usually lavender blue or blue-violet |
Hello Bud, thank you so much.
It is amazing for your quick answer, thank you again. Can I get them in Japan? I'm going to look for them on the WEB. But if you have any further information, please let me know. Thanks. |
Dendrobium delicatulum (also known as parvulum) is generally a deep blue. Although the blue variety is not commonly available to buy (and when it is it's very expensive!). We tend to see more of the cream/white variety. It is truly, stunningly blue though - and tiny!

Welcome to Orchid Board :welcome:
I can't help on finding the orchids I'm afraid, just be aware that blue is a rare colour in orchids so when they do exist they are expensive. Some orchids are also died blue and sold, so watch out for that. Anyway, just wanted to say welcome and congrats on flowering your first Dendrobium :) |
Hello NatalieS
RoseyC Thank you for the message and information. Anyway I'll try to find some dendrobiums I prefer. If you will have any other information, please let me know. And if you want to know Japanese culture on flowers, just send me your interests by an email. I'll try my best to reply it. Thank you so much. |
Hello and welcome! Can't really add anything useful here, but I do love neofalcatas and hope to learn more from you about traditional culture. Best wishes on your pursuit of the orchids you are searching for!

Japan has strict costoms inspection in airports when I was there, so I imagine they are stricter with plants being imported although I have bought some orchids from one of the reliable Ebay seller from Kagohima.
You can find a lot of the orchids you like on Ebay but choose those that gives free certificates and are in reciprocity with your country. |
:welcomeflowers: Glad you found us!
I believe there are no true blue orchids, but bluish purple or violet. Den. victoria-reginae can be quite near blue, but also can be pink or lavender. I have a victoria-reginae hybrid - 'Mingle's Sapphire' - also can be near blue, or violet, pink, lavender. These ones are a different type of Dendrobium than the Den-Phal types that are typically found in stores, but are pretty easy growers. I have seen some near red wine colored Den-Phal types, but can't supply names, sorry. |
Miyamoto Musashi.
You are located in Kanazawa prefecture. Kokusai Engei is also in Kanagawa. Ohba Orchid Nursery is in Komae City. Fuji Nursery is in Okayama. You can ask any of them. There are other orchid nurseries in different cities. Takyubin provides very inexpensive and dependable delivery. |
