New paph with no name...
but a lot of flowers coming soon :D
So I visited one of my favorite flower shop in a very long time the other day. I picked up some nobile dendrobiums as mine are winding down (as far as flowering goes) and he had some amazing ones loaded with flowers and great price. Then he showed me this paphiopedilum with lots of buds on it. I had no idea what to expect as far as the flower color and shape, except that it looks like a sequential bloomer. It has four spikes developing and I guess I will find out soon. I'll either hit a jackpot or ... I just love the dark coloring on the under side of the leaves and the super hairy buds. |
It looks super healthy. In a few weeks you'll have quite a show!
|
It does. but the whole thing is so dense in the pot that it's hard to water it and hard to examine how many fans there are. I have to put in a bucket full of water.
I looked closely and it seems to have four fans with spikes, the easy part, and at least two old fans, and one or more new fans going. roots are growing over the pot. Two of the spike are well above the leaves while the other two are barely poking out in the center of the crown. so I will have the flower show for a few months it seems if not years :) Hopefully the flower will open up to be something I can enjoy, or ... |
Good looking plant. Please post pictures when it blooms.
|
Thanks, Tucker
I will post pictures when it finally open its many buds.
I'm really excited/dreaded at the same time. ;) By the way, it's strange that I am so drawn to it without knowing what it's going to look like. There's something about this plant. I enjoy looking at the growing little hairy buds on thick hairy spike emerging above the dark leaves. When they all finally open, I hope I will be in awe (in a good way) |
Wow, what an amazing find! You lucky man you. I can't wait for the blooms.
|
It looks like it might be a member of the Parvisepalum subgenus or maybe the Brachypetalum subgenus? I'm an amateur so I really don't know, but I've seen pictures of Paph delantii in bud, for example, and they remind me of of this one...a bit... But they're not sequential bloomers, right?
Oh, what the heck, love the foliage anyway! |
what a super find!!
|
Wow! Can't wait to see the results!
|
It think it might be a Dellaina. It could also be a Deperle, pink. But i think Dellaina :D
