Epidendrum fimbriatum
 

This is by far one of the more difficult species of Epidendrums to grow. It is a mid to nosebleed high elevation, (1,100 m - 3,000 m), growing miniature lithophytic/terrestrial orchid that often gets seen growing along the cliff faces of roadsides in its native habitat.

I have had issues with this one ever since I purchased them.

Tiny flowered, compact, and cute. This one is not a beginner's orchid.

I have never seen this one. It's very nice. How small is it? And how cool do you grow it?

It gets pretty cool here during the spring/fall/winter. Summer is the problem.

It does best when it doesn't go above 85 F. It can easily take it down to 36 F. 90 F is the highest it should ever go.

The plant is tiny. The largest I've ever seen it is about 3" - 4" tall. That was when I first got it. The flower is only a little less than 1/4" across.

Mine are flowering off a keiki. The keiki is about 1/2" - 3/4" tall/long. I have a total of 5 keikis.

The following is a pic of the entire plant. Like I said, it didn't thrive for me, so it kinda looks a bit ragged. The keikis are looking alright for now.

I have made seeds of these before, but the flasker said that they got contaminated or didn't work out or something.

For a tiny flower, the seed capsules are large by comparison - being close to 1/2" long with lots and lots of seeds per capsule.

The fimbriatum in the name is referring to the fimbriated edges of the labellum, btw.
