Bulbophyllum Lighting
 

Hi there,

I have a bulb gracillium and laxiflorum that are looking pretty happy. When I first got them I thought I read that they were okay in a east facing windowsill, however the laxiflorum is starting to look a little light in the leaves. I just did some research and it seems some people recommend both should be in shade.

1. Is this what the board would suggest?
2. What do you consider shade? Is that some direct light, or none at all? I can put the flower in a spot where it gets some early light but only for a few hours, much less than in the east windowsill. Or I could put it on a dresser where it gets some ambient light, but never anything direct.

Could someone please advise?

Hi Philip, sorry to sound foolish but what would be considered bright shade?

Shade that is not too deep/dark. It has a diffuse amount of light. The lighting is soft, not harsh. It's as bright as a shaded area can be without going to the next level of brightness.

I don't use a meter, so I can't provide numbers. I've gotten used to kinda eyeballing what they need in terms of light.
