the winter dry period

hey guys, my first winter with my orchids are soon to come. i am in need of learning the "how to's" for the dry rest.

i have my Neo. falcata, Den. kingianum, Den. honey (still needing conformation), a Phal. noid, a Paph. noid, and a Paph. moquettianum x delenatii.

i know the dends and the neo need the dry rest, while the phal and paphs dun really need it.

i know that does NOT mean just dun water for the whole winter. but how should i water? no soaking for the dends and neos but can i still soak for the phal and paphs when they are starting to get quite dry?

and when it comes to the fertilizers, does that i mean i should just hold back on all of it or do i keep fertilizing whichever orchids i still see in active growth?

thanks.

Hi it depends on what kind of Dends. they are . as for the others no real rest time. Gin

Hi Nick,

Dunno about the Neo or the den honey. But a rest - cool period for your kingianum should bring on blooms. I would still spray down the leaves and canes somewhat to avoid any mites.
Your phals and paphs dont need any kinda of rest period, although you will probably find some slow down in growth, so just less watering during the colder months. Water when they begin to dry.

Edit : - Opps forgot the fertilizer - You can just continue on with the feeds as needed, not for you king den, A rest period of 6 to 12 weeks should do it. (you decide)

:D

Neofinetia Falcata need cool temperatures but they should stay slightly moist.
