New Acquisitions (Cymbidiums)!
Hello all,
today I acquired some Cymbidiums 3, they have new growths on them, and one is still in flower. Don't know their names. I bought the 3 for $30 on discount and the shop keeper gave me 18 Hyacinth bulbs for free cause the flowers were gone I will be moving them to Semi-hydro soon. http://i756.photobucket.com/albums/x...4-11162356.jpg http://i756.photobucket.com/albums/x...4-11162408.jpg http://i756.photobucket.com/albums/x...4-11162511.jpg http://i756.photobucket.com/albums/x...4-11162505.jpg http://i756.photobucket.com/albums/x...4-11162443.jpg http://i756.photobucket.com/albums/x...4-11162437.jpg http://i756.photobucket.com/albums/x...4-11162425.jpg |

To be honest, brain surgery is an understatement when it comes to loosening the root ball of a cym. I cut out 1/3 of the root ball to be able to clean out as much as I could of the old medium and loosening the roots. I couldn't remove all the old media out from between the roots because the roots were tightly stuck together and tangled. I used a normal Plastic pot for my Semi-Hydro medium (Hydroton) because I was having a algae problem with my clear pots with my Phals. I placed the newly potted Cym into a shady location for a couple of weeks. Looking beautiful!!

A pointed wooden skewer should have gotten the mix out from the roots, especially if you cut the bottom 1/3/ off. Was the root ball wet by any chance? Dividing a recently watered plant is MUCH more difficult than dividing a dry one. CL |
