Habenaria corms - Which way is up?

1 Attachment(s)
I thought my Habenaria rhodocheila was history, so I was cleaning out the pot and dug out these two corms that look like maybe they might be coming back to life. So I was going to repot them in dry peat-perilite mix and wait to see if something pops up. The problem is, I don't know which way to point these little white protrusions. :dumb: I don't know if they are roots or the possible start of new growths. Does anyone know?

Thanks!
Brenda

June Bud , congrats!! You have the start to new growths! Habenaria rhodocheila seem like their dead but are slow to start in the spring. Hold the urge to water these just now giving only a VERY lite watering, just enough to make the soil slightly moist. Keep that type of watering up until you see the growths breaking the top of the soil. At that time you can increase lighting and watering. During active growth they will like to be kept on the moist side.
Oh , and lay them on their side, they'll find their way up.
That's how I received mine and have been growing like that since. :twocents: Good Luck!!

As Judi said, the point is the new growth. It is normally pointing up, but if you're ever confused about which side is up, lay it on its side.

Judi and Kip, thanks for the tips. I've potted them up and will wait until I see something poking up before I begin watering. Will keep my fingers crossed that disturbing and exposing them at this point, won't inhibit growth. I love this plant and the fragrance is wonderful!
