tolumnia urophylla

got this plant sunday at our newbie meeting. Its a division of a plant that is in decline as the man says and only had 115 spikes this year and not the 156 it had last year. Plant is about 35 to 40 years old and about 2 ft in diameter. Quit impressive to see about 1000 little tiny blooms..

mine has long way to go ;)

Wow! That's really cool!

I wonder if this one will live to be 35?...I try not to feel like I got started late doing this, but I got started late doing this. Some people in our society been growing for 40, 50 years and they have the plants to show for it. Im happy with crumbs and dollar discount orchid pots ;).

I think I need to grow somethings faster

With only 115 spikes, I would have divided it too. *rolling eyes* I suspect quite a few of us had a late start with orchids - I know I have. But better late than never. :)

'Only' 115 spikes??? Now what a shame, lol. That plant must be so impressive to see! Do you have a pic of it by any chance? Yours is looking good. One spike, but you have to start somewhere! :)

156 spikes!?!?!?!? I SOOOO want to see a picture of that!!! Heh, if I grow orchids the rest of my life. . . I could be growing for 80+ years!

I can't imagine an orchid with that many spikes. Heck , I'm happy with the occassional ones I get. ;)
This will be beautiful when they all bloom!

BTW, nice colour!

I don't have any Vandas, but averaging about 5 1/2 years per generation from pollination to first bloom, I'll be able to breed approximately 15 generations straight!!!
