Ascofinetia Twinkle

the tag says Ascofinetia Twinkle x neofinetia falcata. I guess it got a double dose of neo. 3rd spike on a plant thats barely 3 inches tall.

Very cool, I love the faint color of the blooms.

Nice flowers! Quite a little bloomer, if that's it's third spike!

Neofinetia falcata x Ascofinetia Twinkle is Ascofinetia Moonlight Firefly. The reverse cross doesn't seem to be registered, so I'm hoping that it is Moonlight Firefly.

I just got one of these recently. I've only seen a few pics online but seems they can range from white to dark yellow. Mine looks about the same size as yours, so hopefully it will spike soon. It is growing roots very well, which is more than I ever achieved with my 2 Neos.

3rd spike indeed :)..has faint purple blushing on the tips. Kind of a crazy spike this time. This one seems to like the high light and evenly moist all the time. Its getting full morning sun until about 11:30. and you guessed it it grow in one my little jars. I treat it just like my species neos.

Thanks you all :)

(moonlight firefly seems to be yellow)

The reverse cross would be considered something different because of the different pod parent. It is believed that the orchid pod parent gives a little more of its' traits it the seeds.

This is why the blooms have purple-ish tips and not yellow-ish.

Thank you, I'm aware of that. I was referring to the habit of some growers to label their plants without regard to the proper order of seed parent x pollen parent. Several of the plants I got from one vendor were like this and I had to confirm that they were what I had paid for and not a reverse cross.

When writing out a cross it is correct to put the actual pod parent first, but pod parent vs. pollen parent makes no difference at all in registered names. Ascf. Twinkle x Neo. falcata and Neo. falcata x Ascf. Twinkle are both Ascf. Moonlight Firefly. The International Orchid Register will only have it listed with the original pod parent of the registered cross first, but the reciprocal cross always gets the same name.

Very Nice! Congrats on your growing!

Greenbean: I see what you mean. I misunderstood.

Paphmadman: Thanks for the information. I thought it did make a difference, good to know it doesn't.

Neo. falcata is a very strong parent and all crosses using it seem to look predominately like falcata.

The most amazing I have found is a cross with Vanda sanderiana, a large 5 inch flower on a monster plant crossed with Neo. falcata, looks just like falcata but with flowers 50% to double the size of normal falcata. The plant also is small less then double the size of falcata
