Branching out into Windowsill Gardening

Normally I grow under HPS lighting, but recent additions to my collection have necessitated taking the plunge into windowsill culture. So, I am moving about half of my phals and a couple of species catts out into the dining room to an East window.
Kinda nervous - this is a whole new ball game!

That's funny--I grow most of my orchids on windowsills, but today we installed some T5s. Anyway, looks like you have plenty of light. Just watch for sunburn on your phals --you may want to get sheer curtains.

yeah, thanks :)

on another note....I have room for more plants now! *greedysmackingsounds*

Fantastic setup. I like the little bird below that plant. Still not 100% sure if he's real or not.

Nice set-up and it looks like you have plenty of room for even more chids!!

I predict at least 20 more plants in your future.

Beautiful window. It should provide lots of light for your Phals (maybe too much). I have an east facing garden window and I sun blistered lots of phals the first time I put them there. But my problem was overhead sun that garden windows allow for... so, hopefully, this wouldn't be your problem. If you start seeing sun damage, like someone said, try curtains. I would try a Vanda. Good luck with your new growing area.

what a great window! I'm jealous! lol I have some big windows in the back, but due to the floor plan of my home, they don't get much light :p

Funny, I think most people start with the windows, and then move under lights! :)
I think your Phals will be very happy there, you'll just have to watch them a bit to make sure they don't burn in the beginning.
