Unknown Stanhopea

Hey there, i have had this Stanhopea for about 20 years, and actually thought it had dies a while back. However after sticking this unnamed plant in a tree in the back yard it decided to flower. I do remember getting a plant from a collector ages ago with a tag saying only species Peru.
There were 6 flowers, only 3" across with nearly no scent. Would anyone know what this plant is?? Cheers Haemish |
Nice save!!! :) The color is beautiful. Sometimes all an orchid needs to thrive is to be thrown into a corner and ignored.
Wish I could help you with the name, but I know nearly nothing about Stanhopea. |
 Gorgeous!
unfortunately, like Camille, I can't help with a name. I hope someone else is able to - good luck! |
Do you have any other photos of the blooms from different angles? I was looking in Orchidwiz at pics of Stanhopea native to Peru, and found one that might be a bit similar, but it's hard to tell from your pics. There's no clear view of any one bloom.
If you have lots of time one your hands you could try going through the IOSPE website. |
could be Stanhopea ruckeri or (inordora) previous name as it meant odorless.

If my memory doesnŽt fail, there is a guy in Australia called Barney Greer who has written a booklet on Stanhopeas. He has pictured a lot of Stanhopeas if not all known. IŽd suggest to put the flowers in aethanol and send it to him.
And yes, beautiful flowers and its good to have a grower like mother nature on your side. |

You might want to take a look through the Stanhopea Pages here:
The Stanhopea Pages by Nina Rach, edited November 2011 It sort of looks like Stan. saccata to me, but hard to tell from just one photo. Dr. Rudolf Jenny might be able to identify it for you. He was kind enough to identify one of my Stanhopeas from pictures I sent him. Don't have his email address, anymore. |
Dr. Rudolph Jenny wrote a monography on Stanhopeas. Title: The Stanhopea Book. Edited in 2010., 490 pages. This book is only available by the author. Email: rjorchid@gmx.ch
I don't know the price. |
Stanhopea inodora, perhaps? :hmm
