Colmanara Wildcat 'Red Cat' in bloom

My Colmanara Wildcat 'Red Cat' bloomed a few days ago. It's a fairly small plant with only several pseudo bulbs so I am pleased that it bloomed. I've had this as a larger plant for a few years. But it was always struggling with black rot in the pseudo bulbs and I had to keep removing them. I finally beat the problem by removing a rotten bulb and also the next healthy one. This reduced it to almost nothing so it took a year or two but finally I am rewarded! It now has a ton of roots and will be re-potted into a larger pot after it is finished blooming. It's a very dark maroon with bright yellow just at the tips of the petals!

oh my! Fabulous!
I have seen some that look like this with no tags from time to time, and have always been VERY tempted - just trying to stay away from Onc alliance a bit - they can get so big! lol

I have 1 with just about the same flower, it's tag says 'Green River' which I couuld never understand. Yours looks great.

Thanks WhiteRabbit and billc. This one is in a 3 inch pot so other than the bloom spike it is quite compact. But it will move up a size when I re-pot it. It seems fairly un-demanding.

Very nice. I have the 'Bob Cat' clone, which is spiking now, and yes, they can get huge.

So gorgeous, love the colour of this one.

I have a NoID Colmanara which I'm pretty certain is a Wildcat of some sort and at first glance I thought yours was very similar, but it's not quite. I love this colour!

I love my Colmanara, (Masai Red) and yours is gorgeous too. I agree, they are fairly un demanding and when I was repotting mine a couple of years ago I accidentally separated a really big pseudobulb without any roots. By supporting it upright in a new pot of compost I managed to persuade it to root and it now flowers every year without fail.

Well done!!

That's a really nice dark one. Good growing!
I have a Wildcat 'Yellow Cat' whose blooms are starting to open this week.

Love, love, love that deep red! I must have one. I don't care how big they get, I must have one. I will make room.

Excellent growing!
