Sick Phal, Red spike and redness on leaves

Hey Guys,

I'm new here, been lurking for a few weeks but need some help. I picked up my first orchid a while ago and since the last buds fell, have been trying to revive it.

I think I bought this at Costco or home depot and have since repotted. It sits in an east facing window in Chicago.

Any idea what's causing this?

What color are the blooms on this one? It may just be that it is a dark pink or it may be getting to the limits on how much light it can handle.

:welcomeflowers: Glad you stopped lurking. I'm a newbie, but your Phal. looks good to me! Some Phals have darker colored spikes and a darker color on the underside or edge of the leaves. It's a natural occurance, not a sign of sickness. Don't take what I've said for Gospel and wait until the experts have a look at your plant. :) In my limited experience, dark colored stems and leaves produce dark colored flowers.

Gosh, I barely remember. I think the blooms are pink? I guess the leaves and the spikes look so much different than my other phals it got me concerned. Thanks for the feedback, look forward to a few more comments. Happy to post more pictures maybe in the daylight.

There's nothing wrong with your Phal. that I can see! Many Phals with pink or purple in their blooms will show pigment in leaf and spikes. You should see the one that just opened for me! It is a lovely clear purple flower and the spikes and blooms were solid maroon and the leaves very dark green but almost maroon tinge on them. Much like yours only darker even. Be sure to post pics when it blooms!

Looks like a perfectly happy and healthy Phal to me! Marron/ red is not a unusual color, especially for the dark colored Phals

All I can say is that you have a very happy looking Phal. :) Congrats to a great buy! I look forward to see some pictures of the flowers later on.

Doritis/dorianopsis hybrids. Pretty common. I used to have some species that had a lot of purple on-under the leaves but I haven't seen a phal nursery in years. I used to be a walking dictionary. Now I hobble and look for car keys.:((

I agree with the others, the redish color is natural for some phals.. The orchid looks very healthy to me.
