4 x YAP...

Umm... so hi again (for the umpteenth time).

It struck me today that we actually have another vendor here in town, which existence I had managed to completely erase from my mind. Since my temporary aphasia lifted I decided to pay said vendor a visit. I never should have. I ended up with four more Phals! They're all really small, but still! Is there no end to this madness that does not spell bankruptcy?!

I'll re-pot them all today because two of these guys stand in hard packed moss, the third one just needs some fresh medium, and the fourth had been stuffed down a large, clear plastic tube and placed in water. I think it might have some minor root rot issues that will be dealt with (they had three of these poor guys in similar tubes and this was the healthiest looking one). I think I'll try to mount the fourth on a clay pot as I saw some of you have done. :)

I hope all of these little guys survive, particularly since three of them are in worse shape (the darkest one were the only they had more than one of, which meant I could choose the healthiest looking plant).

Oh dear! :) A nice haul. Hope your aphasia for the other 57 vendors in town doesn't lift. And heaven forbid you find out you can happily ship orchids all over the EU! ;)

When it comes down to choosing between food for you or food for your plants (you can afford only one) you know you're in trouble...

The Mutant 02-27-2012 09:18 AM

*sniggers*
Actually I'm waiting for Schwerter to ship the seven orchids I've ordered from them, so unfortunately for me I've already discovered the benefits of living in a country that's part of EU...

Food's no problem; first my cats, second my chids, and third me!

If the worst comes to the worst, you can eat your cats, then your catts. ;)

Girl, you are out of control!!
I am sooo happy that I 'outgrew' the buy-every-single-orchid-in-sight phase, my piggy bank was quite anorexic from all of that. :coverlaugh:

I agree with Camille, you are out of control! But I can see why you felt compelled to buy them, they are cuties!
And no, there is never an end to the orchid buying, you'll ALWAYS find one more that you just can't live without!

Nice mini's there. Love the ruffles on #2 and does #5 have mottled leaves? Either way it's a nice addition.

Discus 02-28-2012 03:19 AM

I've (mostly) outgrown YAP, mainly because they tend to be very "same-y" around here. But boy oh boy do those catalogues from the vendors bring temptation...

...and the truly scary part is it's just a list of latin names with prices. It's not even pictures. I just go "ooooh" at names now. Argh.

YAO is an entirely more insidious affliction.

Of course, if you consider my broader balcony YAP (Yet Another Plant) continues to loom. :D

Yup, I'm totally out of control!

But these, these cuties! I couldn't just leave them there to face uncertain death, could I? *tells herself that of course she couldn't*

They're my very first minis too, even though I think the one they had showed down the plastic tube won't stay a mini for very long (the one with the ruffled petals, or is it sepals? Got to learn the difference).

Yup, one of them have faintly mottled leaves.

THERE WILL BE NO EATING ANY CATS! And since I don't have any Catts, no eating of those either. On the other hand I have a forest across the street, if worst comes to worst I can always lumber across the road and graze for a bit.

I re-potted the cutie-pies yesterday into some fresh sphagnum, in comparison to the rock-hard the were in. They all had surprisingly fine roots except one (the one with the brightest flowers and the mottled leaves) and unfortunately I discovered today that the dark one is a stinker...
