Cattleya guttata var. prinzii
For assessment of the friends of Orchid Board.
I make a gift purchase for my wife, nothing better than an orchid, but as it could not be, brought this baby, a gift for me too. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7062/6...82e298e423.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7048/6...a4aa53c7ab.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7061/6...003520d05a.jpg |
Holy smokes! That's spectacular!

Question: both Kew and Withner consider C. guttata var. prinzii a synonym for C. amethystoglossa. Your plant is obviously not C. amethystoglossa. Do you know why this is considered var. prinzii?

What a gorgeous Catt! I love the spots on it.

Wow.

Currently we do not call more varieties of orchids when derived from something that does not immediately identify which color variation we are talking about. Cattleya amethystoglossa was discovered in southern Bahia in 1856 and was rated by Reichenbach f. Prinzi as Cattleya guttata var. The answers above have been cited in the net. But according to an orchid friend, I'll take your clarification about: Var.: Prinzii - smaller flowers but more numerous, greenish-yellow color. Flowering in February / March. ---------- Post added at 08:44 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:41 PM ---------- Quote:

What a wonderful plant. Colors and highlighted. Must be one of my twin sister, very beautiful. That's cool you're from Germany, because I'm starting my family tree, and I am of German descent, I am not mistaken they must have come from Thuringia, but iso is another story that has nothing to do with orchids. Nice to meet ya. Rinaldo;) |
Wow, looks great!! What is the scent like on this one?
