ORCHID COMBO FOR CONSTANT BLOOMING
AS A NEWBIE, I'M NOT FAMILIAR ENOUGH WITH THE DIFFERENT KINDS OF ORCHIDS TO KNOW WHAT'S THE RIGHT COMBINATION OF ORCHID TYPES IF I WANT TO HAVE AT LEAST ONE OF MY PLANTS BLOOMING AT ALL TIMES OF THE YEAR. THAT IS, IF THERE IS SUCH A COMBINATION.

:welcomeflowers:
Welcome to OB! I try to grow plants that stay in bloom for awhile. Phals will stay in bloom for a long time. They tend to bloom in the winter. Catts don't seem to stay in bloom for very long, at least for me, but bloom in the summer. Paphs stay in bloom a reasonably long time. Dens stay in bloom a long time. It also helps to buy mature plants to start. Seedlings can take 2-3 years, or longer. They say you have to have at least 100 to have something in bloom all the time. I don't think that's true, though. |
WELCOME ABOARD !
Try getting sequential blooming orchids...a psychopsis will bloom for you for a year...some Paphs can bloom for you for a year... Connie gave you some examples of orchids that you are assured to have blooms for a year...some hybrids bloom every four months alternate that with some of the sequential blooms...you get what you want |
Welcome, Debbie! I agree with Connie. I have a Den that blooms for about 7-8 months out of the year. And I have a few Oncidiums that bloom twice a year or more. Sometimes hybrids can be a tad unpredictable in South Florida with our less-than-clearly-defined winters :) but a lot of them do bloom more than once a year. If you want to be more scientific about it, you can pic species that bloom at more specific times of year, and just fill in the gaps as you go along.
By the way, when posting online or writing an email, all caps is generally considered raising your voice or yelling. Just thought you'd want to know. :) Again, welcome!!! |
Welcome to Orchid Board. I have a Prosthechea cochleata that has been blooming pretty much constantly since I got it 2 years ago. Some paphs will bloom sequentially and stay in bloom for several months.
