Tolumnia Midas 'Orchid Heights' AM'AOS

I don't claim to be a Tolumnia grower but I've always liked this one. Just blooming on a 3 growth division in a
2" pot. Broke the spike off of my bigger division, too bad.
The photos don't do justice to the color of the plant, it's a buttercup yellow in real life.

Stunning! Great photos too. I love this one - well done.

Thanks for sharing.

The name of this one is a little trickier than most Tolumnias. This was originally registered as Oncidium Midas (Red Belt x onustum). Red Belt became Tolumnia, but Onc. onustum became Zelenkoa onusta, so this is now Zelemnia Midas.

Very nice!

How cute! That's already a nice color in the pic, so it must be especially nice in real life, buttercup yellow is bright! Nice speckling too.

 :faint: Zelenkoa has got to be one of the strangest genus names ever. Zelemnia is no better Oncidium is so much easier to remember, and prononce! I honestly wonder who comes up with these crazy names.

When Onc. onustum was separated from the Oncidiums about 10 years ago, a new genus had to be created, and the taxonomists who named it selected to name it in honor of Harry Zelenko, an artist who painted all the illustrations for "Orchids: The Pictorial Encyclopedia of Oncidium".

True, I did buy it as Onc. Midas. I didn't know, however, that it wasn't just a reclassified Tolumnia.

Thanks for the info!

Purchased a long time ago from Taylor Orchids in Monroe, MI. You can find them on the Web.

Well that explains it then! Doesn't make me like the name any more than before though!
