A Second Bud?

1 Attachment(s)
Hello-
Im new to growing Paphs, and currently have 5 of them. I noticed yesterday that one of my young orchids has a new little, what looks like a bud behind the mature flower. Is this in fact a second bud waiting to open up? Not sure :)
I attached a photo so that you would see.
Thank you for your help!

Yup - It's a second bud. Looks like a sequential bloomer. When the second one matures, you may find a tiny third behind the second.

oh wow, very neat. Is it just the type of hybrid that it is which is making it a sequential bloomer? This one did not have a tag when I originally bought it, so not sure exactly what kind it is?

Some Paphs are sequential bloomers, depending on their genetics.

However others will produce two buds in one sheath and no more, still others produce multiple blooms on a spike close in time together and are not sequential.

In your case I'm sorry to say that it actually looks like it could have been an attempt at a second bud in the same sheath. Sometimes these second ones start to form with the main bud but then the plant gives up on them and they never fully form.

I could be wrong though, so keep an eye on it and hopefully it will form for you.

Your Paph is a Maudiae type. Maudiae is a hybrid and yours is unlikely to be actually that, but many of the hybrids like this are referred to as Maudiae type.

They are generally not sequential although I do know there are sequential ones in this group so it's possible it is.
