Orchid Database on my Phone
Yesterday, I found a free database application for my Android phone. I installed it and ceated a database scheme with the following fields:
Code:
Genus and species, text (for listing) The best thing is that the can database automatically synchronize to a google document. So I can see and edit it on my phone and any PC. Photo functionality is also great: I can take a pic with the phone and add it to a plant, download one from PC to phone and add or just x-ref a picture on the web (e.g. my picasa pics). Migrated my grow list and started adding some pictures. I am not quite sure I can export the database scheme. But if so, I am happy to share it. It is really going to help with plants where I am not quite sure what they are. I can add several photos (plant, detail of flowers, etc.) and when I see an expert at a nursery, etc. get some more hints. The wishlist is also cool: if I see a plant I want, I can take a pic of a page in a book or at a show or elsewhere and at it to my list. That way I hope, I will buy only plants that I am actually looking for (-: Lars |
maybe you should patent a more developed app ! its an app that I would look at buying.
Something with a heritage input field would be good. |
I will see whether I can make available what I did. No time to write a more complex app

Add me to people who would be delighted to buy such an app! Sounds wonderful!

Wow!! I was looking for something to do exactly that and had all but given up last week. What database app did you use and modify? I know it would be time intensive but I would love to duplicate your modifications.

Thanks, no worries. I will give it a go, as long as I can create my own custom fields and post pics to it then it seems like a winning ticket to me.
My theory is that with something like this I will be able to take the photo and link it immediately. In the past I take photos of my blooming plants then fail to remember which one it was. <= This is really a problem when you have 25 seedlings of the same plant and are trying to remember which 1 out of 25 was actually fragrant. Duh!!! Stupid me thought awesome the first bloom was fragrant, this is going to be an awesome cross. Only to find out the none of the others that I bloomed out was fragrant and I didn't mark it. So I'm trying to learn from mistakes, but alas I'm a slow learner. |

So I think I have converted your database to a template and I haven't added any entries so everybody should be able to use it. (I left out some of the Dead entries as I figured most of that could be put in notes)
