Den. NOID Bloomed - Any thoughts to ID?
 

Good Afternoon All:

One of my denbrobium NOIDs has bloomed.

It appears to by off-white or cream in color with green highlights.

Any thoughts as to an ID? Is this just one of those 'generic' dens?

It looks like a Phalaenopsis type, and reminds me of Emma 'White'.

Does anyone know if there a series of dendrobiums with "Emma" in their names that are related to one another?

I ask as I have one called Den. Emma Queen that has the same structure in the plant and the bloom as this one but it is purple/violet with a white throat. I am wondering if they are from similiar parentage (thus the shared "Emma") except with a color difference???

This one looks like Emma White to me as well.

I do believe there is a series because I have heard of both 'White' and 'Queen'. There are more I know of, including Emma 'Pink', 'Purple', 'Blue' and 'Red'. Whenever I see these, the names are written like I have written them; ie they have a hybrid name and a cultivar/clone name, so they are all the same hybrid but with color variations. At the same time, misnaming is common these days, so they might be totally different. Whatever the case, there are a lot of Phalaenopsis type Den hybrids, including many that have this shape. Emma 'White' is the only one I know of that matches this pic, but there are probably dozens more that look similar.

I have Emma Queen 'Southeast'. Always in bloom and it looks identical to this NOID.

That's interesting. It's likely that the Emma 'Queen' I saw was actually Emma Queen, so these Emmas must in truth be separate hybrids that came from the same breeder. Regardless, I think I can safely say that this NOID is one of the white Emma varieties.

Definitely a phaelonpsis type. It's lovely!
