Creole Lady, a Hibiscus
Hi all,
Wasn't sure where to put this shot of my hibiscus, creole lady, but I wanted to share it because it's one of the most exotic flowers I grow. The plant is young and has a lot of growing to do but every now and then it pushes a bloom (which, for those not familiar with hibiscus, only last a day!). It's roughly 5 to 6 inches across. The blend of colors is just amazing...totally draws me in. I have it growing in semi hydro in a terra pot and it loves it. The plant is very healthy and growing quickly though I limit it's growth in the short winter days as pruning a hibiscus can mess with its blooming in the summer! I made that mistake with my other hibiscus plant. http://img.tapatalk.com/47d06c13-4ef5-d415.jpg http://img.tapatalk.com/47d06c13-4f04-af97.jpg The second pic is not representative of the true color. It's much bluer like the first shot. |
Absolutely FANTASTIC!

Awesome , never saw one that colour. Usually just reds, pinks etc. Way to grow

What an amazing combination of colours! I wish I had room for one. I like the sunset coloured ones. I did buy seed for the winter hardy Southern Belle type that I will start over the winter. The flowers are 10 inches on those.

Thanks guys... It's an easy plant to grow, too...needs a lot of light but at my high altitude that is doable even in the winter, though the short days make it a challenge. Spider mites is another real issue...my hibiscus seem to be spider mite magnets. So they get a shower every few weeks.

That flower has awesome flare. Very nice, thanks for sharing.

that one is gorgeous! semi hydro for hibiscus huh? hmmm that bears some thought. I have one that I think would take it, and one that i doubt it. I am growing a few seedlings now - can't wait to see how they turn out - i think these are the seeds that i found at disney - solid yellows...

Merkity you can grow just about anything in sh. I have two hibiscus growing in sh now and they grow like weeds in it. Just have to remember to feed them a lot more than other plants.

I tried a streptocarpus in s/h and it loved it so much that the whole contained became packed with roots in no tome. I had to take it out and put in in a large pot of soil.
Many hibiscus grow in mash conditions, so s/h would probably be good for them. |
Beautiful! I love hibiscus! I think yours is the prettiest one I have ever seen! I love the colors. Where did you get this one?
