Crownless, some almost dead roots only (Aerides Lawrencea)... Please help!!!
1 Attachment(s)
Hi, I'm a newbie and may have been ambitious after blooming a few phals.
So, I got this Aerides Lawrencea from Hausermann.. It was beautiful then.. The past couple of weeks I think I watered the crown and it rotted away. I was afraid there may be mold too so I tried to remove the old potting mix. Here's what it looks like now. http://www.orchidboard.com/community...1&d=1321927944 I soaked the roots in water with diluted Grow More orchid food, had cut the rotted roots and leaves with sterilized scissors, and sprayed what's left with alcohol before dunking into the fertilized water. What else can I do? Is this even salvageable? Any help would be appreciated!!! :bua: |
For my 2 cents: I don't believe this plant is going to make it. It woud probably be better to disgard and start with a new healthy one.

I agree but you never know. maybe I would put it in a empty clay pot put a clear lid on top with a open crck, mist it daily. Green is the color of hope, even if it may be a longshot. Could possibly develop some basal keiki.

Thanks, Stefpix! That was my thought too on some of the green roots...
i had the roots on a clay pot and been misting it for like a week now...should i just continue that or wouldn't sphag n bag work for this? |
I think sphag in a bag rots easily. you could also try one of those glass jars with a glass lid and a latch. I would disinfect them, dip the orchid in H2O2 for a few minutes and put it is such jar with some gravel rock on the bottom and close it. like a terrarium. I used that to revived a bulbophyllum. I would just spritz it with some H2O2 to make sure mold and bacteria are killed.
