Any thoughts as to what type of orchid this is?
 

I have an aunt in Florida that has some orchids and she gave this plant to my mom. I was down for a visit and saw this and was wondering what kind of orchid it was. My mom said it's never bloomed but it's grown like crazy. Hello by the way. I've learned tons on this forum but never posted before. This is great site!

Hello and welcome! Your plant looks like a 'reed-stem' Epidendrum, probably radicans or a hybrid thereof. It might need more light to help it bloom, I grow mine outdoors in pretty high light in the warm months. Hope this helps!

I agree it is probably a reed stem Epidendrum, but it is so light deprived and under-watered that it is a little hard to be sure. The stems should be fairly stiffly upright or arching, not vine-like. That is due to lack of light. It looks like there are few if any roots in the pot, so even if the pot is watered it is getting almost no moisture. It clearly isn't being misted in that location. Re-pot and give it nearly full sun and you will see a radically different plant.

Yep that looks like the crucifix orchid aka reed stem Epidendrum...it needs to be cut in everywhere theres roots and potted...unless it is in a humid athmosphere area it needs to be sprayed regularly and it needs to feed...its hard to kill it tho...but it looks really sad...it needs warmth and sun

I'm no expert on these types of orchids. It looks like it could be an epidendrum but it looks more like a vanilla orchid to me. I hope an expert on vanillas will give an opinion here.

I'm no expert either but it looks like vanilla to me as well. My reed stem looks nothing like this but my vanilla certainly does! Especially if it "grows like a weed" and hasn't flowered?

Sorry guys, it is not a Vanilla, it is a reed stem Epidendrum. If you look at the way the leaves have sheaths that grow over the main stem and turn white with age, no Vanilla does that. The plant was grown in light that was not bright enough and has taken on a leggy vine like look. I would make smaller cuttings, repot into an appropriate mix and give it full sun.

Thanks for everyone's contributions. I've sent this info. to my mom along with your suggestions. This guy is growing in a laundry room off the back of their house in Fl. She has some plastic up in the window that would allow a ton of light in if it were removed so the location should work for her, maybe with the extra light and some fertilizer this will start to look like an orchid again. Thanks again for all the input.
