Please help ID this orchid
1 Attachment(s)
Dear all,
Please help ID this orchid. I bought it about a year ago. It's mounted on a cork log. It has never bloomed since I bought it. I think I saw a picture of it's bloom from the owner back then but I lost contact with that person. I remember the blooms were bright orange with some yellow. I really need to ID this orchid so I can give it proper care. Please help. Thanks CC |
Would need to see the blooms - it could be quite a few different things from the plant habit.

another way to ID that is to send a sample to a lab and get its DNA (somebody here posted a lab's addy and it is just sent by mail and its really cheap)
That is a healthy happy plant. whatever youre doing is right. |

Looks like Dinema polybulbon.

Looks a lot like Dinema (Encyclia) polybulbon, but as Ron said it's difficult to positively ID without a bloom picture. Does this picture look like the flower you remember?: IOSPE PHOTOS

Sorry Nat, it happens to me also !
I'll take bets on it being Dinema, everyone else ! Look closely at the pix !!! Do you really need a DNA test to identify your chid ??? |
Oh my goodness! You're all awesome. I knew this is the right place to ask.
Yes, the picture that I saw was exactly like that except the color was a bit brighter but of course it was a different camera, light...etc. Thank you very very much. Now that I have a name, I will search to see what the growing condition should be. Hope it will bloom sometime next year. It's also very interesting to know there is a DNA lab for orchid. Thanks CC |
