Newbie from southern Ontario! :)
 

Hello all,

After creeping around on the board for a few weeks I wanted to take this opportunity to formally introduce myself!

I'm new to the orchid hobby, but not new to the plant hobby. After having my place taken over by tillandsia, I've decided to try my hand with orchids. At first I started with a couple of grocery store orchids, before discovering a local orchid growers (Cloud's Orchids in Jordan, Ontario) who offers retail sales weekends that are SUPER informative. I've tried to attended each weekend since May and the staff there has put up with countless of my questions! haha

I'd recommend their website to anyone, especially to fellow newbies as the "Orchid Doctor" section might help for people who were brought to this site out of concern for a suffering orchid!

I'm also a physiotherapist and mother to two parrots!

:welcomeflowers: YAY! It is always great to see another Canadian on the Board. This place is a fabulous place to learn about orchids and to fall further into addiction with them! You are incredibly lucky to live close to Cloud's, as they are the BEST vendor that I have had experience with, I absolutely LOVE them! Have you bought anything from them?

7 of my 12 are from Cloud's! I demonstrate serious self-control when I'm there! Well that and I live in a very small place that already looks like a jungle. I'm pretty much out of horizontal space and will need to now go vertical.

Have you visited them in person? They won't sell any plant that they wouldn't be proud to personally own. Their plants are ridiculously healthy! I am also totally in love with Clouds!

They have a retail sales weekend coming up and I'm already making my list! Plus this time features a terrarium/vivarium workshop! So excited!

Wow, that is quite the list. Unfortunately, I live in Saskatchewan, so I can't visit them, but I have bought 21 'chids from them, which is almost half of my collection.

Welcome Allycatz, good to hear from a fellow tillandsia -addict-turned-orchid addict. You have built up quite a nice collection already. I'm very interested in hearing about Cloud's terrarium session. Could you keep us posted?

Welcome Allycatz! There are many fellow orchid addicts in
Southern ontario....myself being one. Are you a member of an orchid club, if not I would highly encourage you to check out the nearest one to you. There is also a large show coming up the end of the month at RBG, and there will be several vendors there, probably including clouds. You are very disciplined, I also love clouds, and have attended their sales weekends, however I never seem to leave there without a new dozen or 15 plants. Hope you can get to the show.
