Odontoglossum needs repotting
 

I guess My Odontoglossum needs repotting, but it has a spike with 8 bloom buds that haven't opened yet.
Whe is it the best time for repotting and how many bulbs should stay together). It's not very clear on the last picture, but this new growth is setting out new roots.

ooooo... I would be tempted to repot that now but don't try to divide it or do anything other than put it in a bigger pot with some medium around those dangly roots! Then after the blooms finish you can divide it up (I try to stick with groups of 3 or 4 pbulbs, each with a new growth that has just spiked since thats where the new growth will come from).

Also looks like it could use a bit more water since the pbulbs are a bit wrinkly... I've found that if I want the blooms to last as long as possible, adequate water is a must!

Anyway... don't just take my word for it... lets see what everyone else thinks too....

Would love to see bloom pics when they finally open tho :)

Beallara is an Oncidium alliance intergeneric hybrid of Brassia, Cochlioda, Miltonia and Odontoglossum.

Your newer pbulbs look nice and plump and smooth, so I don't think the plant has been underwatered. Older pbulbs will wrinkle a bit.

I'd try to wait to repot til after it's finished blooming.
If you wish to divide it, each division should consist of at least three older pbulbs + one new growth. To me, bigger IS better as far as orchids go, and I'd pot up rather than divide, unless the size is unmanageable, or you wish to share a division with someone :)

I'll wait till it's finished blooming. I guess I'll pot up and not divide. This way I'll perhaps get more spikes at the same time. If I'm well informed, the size of the new pot shouldn't be much bigger than the old one, isn't it?

If that's a 12cm pot, then going up to a 13-14cm works. All depends on how many roots you find in there, although I'm guessing that it's a lot!

Me too, I'm one of those people who prefer to let plants grow larger rather than divide. The only time I do it on these is if the plant is getting old and there's an excessive amount of back bulbs.

In the mean time, wrap the pot lightly with moss, and place it in a larger pot to protect the new roots as they emerge.

Last thursday the first bud of the second spike started opening. Now it has 4 flowers completely opened and three more buds.
I'm wondering how long the blooms will last.

It's done blooming now. I have a bigger pot, but I'm not sure if I can repot it now or should I wait till late winter/early spring? Thanks for your opinions. I won't divide it, just pot it up into a bigger pot.
