Dendrobium cuthbertsonii
I finally got some semi-decent shots of the cuthbert I got last week. I really love this tiny plant!! And it seems to really like it in the tank with the Masdies. :D

Wow! Now that's a mini plant!
|
Indeed it is!! To give you some idea... the little rock you see in the photo is about 1/2 inch long (just over 1cm).
|
That's a cutie!
I love that it will have orange blooms...they're my favorite :D This is a possible contender for the terrarium, if I succeed with it :) It fits the requirements  |
That is SO dainty! I look forward to seeing the blooms.

Fingers crossed, Judi! I look forward to seeing the flowers as well!
Sue, now that you've got a cool tank, you've got to get this one! Its a definite 'must have' - and I'm not normally a dendro person! :) |
If I can get the 2 Masdies to grow in the tank, this one will be added to the list.
I also LOVE Den jacobsonii..but it takes higher light than I'm setting up for. :hmm I think YOU should check into getting one so I can live vicariously through you ;) IOSPE PHOTOS |
That would actually be a great excuse to give my husband! ;) I'm doing it for Sue!
I'll have to check with the camera again, but I might be in the same position as you... where its nice and cool for the Masdies, its also relatively low filtered light. |
What's the chances of adding a compact florescent such as 55w Compact Fluorescent Lamp near the new Dendro that Sue recommended? I can't grow this (I'm lucky here!) as the temps in summer are way too high. I've got to quit following any thread where Shakkai has originated or responded because you are costing me way too much money

No chance, unless I run a long extension cord... This is in the bathroom, and there are no power outlets in the room except for one of those shaver sockets next to the the sink.
I can give it all the light it wants in winter, as it can be on the side porch then - very cool (temps will drop into the 40s) and bright (maybe about 2500 fc.) The only trouble is that in summer, this area gets up into the 80s - this is where my Brassia and Encylias spend their summers. Maybe I could do the opposite with the Den, moving it out to spend summers with the Masdies, in lower light but cooler conditions. I notice it is Spring flowering, so it is probably winter conditions that matter most?? Do you think it will work? |
