Successful S/H for a beginner
I just wanted to thank everybody here at OB - I'm actually having a great success with my Phal since I changed it to S/H.
I can grow "normal" plants, but I sucked at orchids. My first one, an Oncidium , I killed it because *gasp* I buried its roots on dirt - as on normal plants. Took me some years to shake off the failure and try again. Since then, (and after many many hours lurking here) I've been doing OK with try and error - try again. And then, when I tried S/H, my babies started to thrive, to the point that my Phal have eleven new roots (it already had many healthy roots, so I must be doing something right!) So, again, thanks everybody for sharing your knowledge. I'm deeply grateful, and I'm sure my babies are, too!:D |
Thanks for sharing your success, it's always nice to know when things are going right! :) Do you have a photo of this very happy S/H Phal?

Congratulations!
Just wait until you start experimenting with S/H on "normal" plants. You'll wonder why you ever wasted your time and money on potting soil. Cheers. Jim |
Welcome and Hello!
I am glad that we could be of help to you. I was always scared to put my phals on S/H...but some of my vandacious, miltonia and oncidiums are on S/H...I am glad that your phals are doing great on S/H...I just might try it on my phals too. |
@Camille: I will take a pic tomorrow and share, thanks!
@DelawareJim: Now I'm very curious! I've heard of strawberry doing very well on full hidroponics, some lettuce as well, but that's the most of it... :scratchhead: @Bud: thanks for the welcoming, appreciated it! I have a seedling vanda that came from E-Bay, but I'm afraid of going S/H on it, I've been experimenting with the glass vase method and it seems to be working. Well, it's kind of hidroponic, right? I mean, since there's no medium... And on what Phals are concerned, if a 'chid killer like me managed it, I'm pretty sure you can too. |
Welcome and Gratz!

Thank you! Now I only need to wait for blooms. I'm good in keeping it healthy, but I had no luck with flowers yet. It's just a noid, but it has amazing colors.
