Spanish moss is really a bromeliad (Tillandsia species). It isn't at all hard to grow. Bright light, and hit it with water whenever you water the vandas. You can grow it in baskets or around the roots of other plants. It grows fast for me in the greenhouse, even in Michigan. I just throw some up into a vanda or cattleya basket and it takes care of itself.

Thanks littlefrog, I think I'm gonna try it. I'm in NC visiting my brother at college. Theres spanish moss everywhere, it's sooo beautiful. BTW does the moss have to be mounted or can I just drape it over the pots?

Just drape it around. The real key is bright light and lots of air movement. So it does well in among the roots of vandas and other mounted or basketed plants.

I agree with all the above advice. I have too much of it on my hands right now, and I grow it in my apartment with my other tillandsias and orchids. It gets sprayed with the others and if it is really dry in the winter, I'll soak it for about 1/2 hour. It's by far the most fuss - free of all my plants.
