It is the 'standard' phals, or those from sub-genus Phalaenopsis that need the cooler temps to set spikes.

Needing cooler temps to spike does not make them cool growers. Maybe I misunderstand because I don't see what you mean by sub-genus.

I don't think that there are any Phals out there that are obligatory cool growers in the winter. There are some species that are (semi-)deciduous (Phal parishii, lobbii, braceana...) in their habitat due to either drought or cool winter temperatures. But this cold period is not necessary to their development as they can be kept perfectly well at consistently warm temperatures in cultivation. They will still bloom wonderfully, and they also tend to keep their leaves. There are some phals that can't be kept as warm as others, like Phal pulchra which will keiki off new spikes instead of making buds if the temperature is too high. But it is considered an intermediate grower, not cool.
