Encyclia Green Hornet (in bloom)
 

This fragrant and hardy orchid is also commonly called the Prosthechea Green Hornet. The Green Hornet orchid is a result of crossing a Lancifolium orchid with a Epidendrum (Encylea) cochleatum or Prosthechea cochleata -- hence the name confusion. If I was to name it: I will call it the green octopus. Its a tenacious plant and easy to grow. Its in a humidity tray and I water it only if its dry...I had to repot it again because the pbulbs tend to multiply and grow fast.

Gee, thanks, WhiteRabbit ! It has a fruitty smell of blackberries and watermelons. I am so happy to get three spikes one tall and two short ones. I have also two pbulbs sprouting...I think I have a continuous bloom this season ... I dont think they have a dormant period...so I am looking forward to enjoying this plant

Yeah for sure, Bud. You gotta love this - such a cool looking flower. They sure grow fast too. I've got a few big pots of these now.

Thanks, Gloria...I am not separating pbulbs even as I repot...I want a big specimen...I am sure it will provide for me in the future with a spectacular show of blooms...

Good Job! I have never notice a scent on mine. which is Also in flower. Mine grows attached to my oak tree.

I envy you can grow plants attached to your trees...it must look fascinating to bloom in a tree(so wheres your pictures?) early morning and at dusk try to catch a whiff of the fragrance...its not enveloping a room; you need to go near it to notice the fragrance.

Lovely flowers, Bud. They're fuller than cochleata and the color is superb.
