New Chids to celebrate and 'End' and a 'Start'
Hi OB,
I haven't been around here that much this summer since (as some of you know) I'm due to submit my PhD next week. So, I've been a bit distracted with work :) As it happens, I'm also starting a new job next monday as well (so it's going to be a busy week to say the least!). To celebrate all of this, I was wondering what to do and, naturally, an orchid treat was on the list (also on the list was framing a painting I had commissioned last year - but that's another story, and, unless anyone out there is interested in dragons, I won't go in to it! ;)). Anyway, I thought I'd ask you guys out there for some inspiration on what to get. However, while I was looking at some sites, one of the British sites had a Phal called 'Elegant Jennifer', so really, how could I resist that? but, how could I resist ordering something else to make the most of the postage costs? Sooooo, I took some of Camille's advice on another thread and ordered an Aerangis Fastuosa :) Wow, so much to look forward to in the next couple of weeks - wish me luck on them all and I'll post pics of the chids when they get here :) |
Well of course you have to celebrate with Orchids :cheer:
What great choices, I'm sure you'll love them and best wishes for the last part of your PhD and for your new job. |
Congrats on all the upcoming new starts. I love dragons, by the way!

congrats! of course you deserve an orchid (or two) to celebrate!

Congratulations on your new job and on your PHD...you have chosen some beautiful orchids to celebrate. Good Luck! Pip pip Cheereeooo

Thanks Everyone :)
My newbie has arrived - that's right, I'm using the singular! It seems that I only got sent the Phal and I've been refunded Aerangis. However, I had to ring up to find out this point, which didn't make me happy, as I would've expected at least an e-mail with the shipping notice. Also, even though the phal has a few unopened buds, none of the open flowers made it in tact (many are reduced to the lip and one petal) as they weren't wrapped or anything, and the roots look a little dehydrated. Other than that it's fine ;) Sorry to sound as if I'm complaining, but I guess I'm just a wee bit disappointed. On a brighter note, this is for Daethen - I commisioned a friend of mine who's an artist in Australia to do the painting below. The little dragon in the front links in with the first painting I ever bought from her which is a dragon sitting on a door knocker (the implication is that the door leads to a wizard's study), so this is meant to be the view inside the room :) If you want to look at some more of her dragons and stuff, here's her site with some of her more recent work: Dreams of Gaia - Art of the Goddess |
Beautiful painting! Congratulations on your new job, finishing your education and everything else! Good luck!

Congratulations on the job, the painting and your phd. Too bad about the phal., hopefully you can rescue it. As far as the aerangis is concerned: maybe you are better off not getting it from this grower. It sounds like they don't know how to prepare for shipping, and aerangis are quite sensitive. They are very rewarding to grow, so give it another shot when you need to be rewarded again (I'm sure you'll find a reason)
