Mounted my new orchids -- & a howidunit | picture heavy
I had already posted this in another forum, but wanted to start participating here too.
I ordered a bunch of orchids last week and had already decided to mount them. Okay, on to the pictures! The how-I-dun-it, mounting Gastrochilus Japonicus: Orchids to be mounted, and available mounts (got it at the petstore). I had soaked the mounts a couple of times before, the last time in fertilized water (don't know why, thought I'd give it some nutrients for the plant? Don't know if it made sense) http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w...N4867kopie.jpg Teasing it out of the pot. It was in very fresh sphagnum as far as I could judge, and no damaged roots at all. If they were there, I normally would've removed them at this stage. While I was preparing my stuff it was soaking in a weak fertilized solution. http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w...N4868kopie.jpg positioning on the mount: http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w...N4869kopie.jpg Putting on sphagnum, and a little bit underneath, and tying it with plasticized wire: http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w...N4870kopie.jpg Making a little loop and adding the label: http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w...N4871kopie.jpg Tadah! http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w...N4881kopie.jpg All of them mounted, from left to right Renethera Vietnamica, Gastrochilus Japonicus, Sedirea Japonica and Cattleya Aclandiae: http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w...N4879kopie.jpg And gave the Cattleya Aclandiae a little companion, another Aclandiae: http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w...N4914kopie.jpg And then I watered them. I still need to hang them on my wall, will update if I do. |
Here are close-ups of the other mounts, plus two I had bought already mounted.
Renenthera (Renanthera?) Vietnamica http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w...N4885kopie.jpg Sedirea Japonica http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w...N4890kopie.jpg Mounted this NoID mini-phal earlier this week, I already had the plant. It is now a centrepiece on my dining table, and working on a keiki ^.^ http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w...N4899kopie.jpg http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w...N4902kopie.jpg http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w...N4903kopie.jpg Another Cattleya Aclandiae http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w...N4904kopie.jpg Schoenorchis fragrans mounted on wood, hanging on the last ever available bottle of my favorite 2001 Rioja. http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w...N4906kopie.jpg |
Wow! They are all beautiful :)

How gorgeous! :yikes: Here I was thinking mounted orchids in the home couldn't be done! This certainly is inspiring, especially since I was running out of shelf space at the window...

Awesome!

Nicely done ! If it gets larger then you dont repot it, just attach everything to another bigger wood....I will look for some of my orchids that I can mount, this is a very good idea
|
VERY nice mounts!
|
Nicely done, love the mounts!
|
they look great! I've used wood for reptiles from the petstore for mounting orchids too ;)
|
Nice mounts, I never thought about getting wood at the petstore! Very healthy plants too, which grower are they from.
I have about a dozen mounts at home, but most are struggling. Even with twice a day watering they are still very dehydrated. How do you keep yours? |
