New Cymbidium
5 Attachment(s)
Yesterday my husband bought me this Cymbidium. I love the color. It has one spike completely in bloom and two spikes that will open soon. It's a shame she doesn't have a fragance (in fact, none of my orchids has. Perhaps only the species do or are there also hybrids with a fragance?). Besides, there is what I think is a fourth spike (last two pictures). Its perhaps difficult to tell from the pictures, but I think it's a spike.

Very nice ! Pretty soon you will have a magnificent display of blooms...

beautiful! I think that is new growth in pix 4 & 5 - is the end fat or flat? (spike would be 'fat', or swelling, new growth will be 'flat')

I've got new growths on my other cyms and they look different. Time will tell if it's a spike or a new pseudobulb. I'll let you know.
|
Definitely a new growth in pics #4 and #5. The leaves have even started to separate.

All of you were right. It is a new growth and not a spike. I hope I'll get a new spike some day. For the time being, it's still blooming on the two spikes that had the buds closed. The spike that had the flowers open completely is done blooming and I've cut it off.
By the way, the colour of the flowers at these two spikes is different from the first spike that bloomed. The flowers are much lighter, they're still pink, but almost white, not as pink as on the first picture I posted. |
The lighter color is because the buds matured in less light.
