Preserving Orchid Blooms (other than dried)
Wanna save that most excellent bloom "forever"?
Has anyone tried to preserve orchid blooms? Not dried. For example in some liquid or resin? Imagine a new collection... of dead orchids! :hmm... I welcome your reply here or directly. Thanks, Lee |
I think the resin may work.... i have seen other blooms like that but in a block... Some on should try it :)

I have a couple of flowers in cast plastic.
The blossoms still have to be dried before being cast in the plastic resin. If you don't the moisture will allow bacteria or fungi to grow for a while, and you end up with a decorative glob of rotting tissue for your display case! |

I once took this night blooming cereus and placed it in a preservative:

1 o' 9,
You can prolly anticipate my question... Do you remember the name of the preservative? (Send 7 o' 9 over to help me with this project! :~}) |
Hi,
I was able to make it because I live, I mean, work in a lab. You take 6g of Cupric Sulfate, and dissolve in 300 ml of water. THen mix 95% ethanol, 1500 ml formalin, 300 ml Acetic Acid, 150 ml in 750 ml of water. Use distilled water in both cases. Don't know if you have access to some of those chemicals though. or divide everything by 3 to make only 1,000 ml total. |

there was an ad on my orchid society's newsletter and it was a bee's wax preservative. Their mix was supposed to keep the blooms looking good but I have to idea as I have never preserved blooms in wax. They said their wax was special to others: The Victorian Bride introduces Immortal Floral - Perfect Petal Flower Preservation Kits
I have only dried flowers in a powder such as flour, though buying a silica would work better |
