Habenaria germination
Hi
1 month after germination, incubated in the dark (2 month) http://www.orchidboard.com/community...a-regnieri.jpg I sown on two different mediums Malmgren medium modified (600 mg aminoacid) and homemade medium. This is sown on medium homemade, on Malmgren medium modified is much slower. |
very cool! keep us updated please :)
|
can you describe the process and how you made the home made medium?
thanks! |
That looks like white fungus. It's not contaminated??
|
@ jaxorchidman
is not contaminated, the protocormi are so when germination occurs in the dark. The Habenaria is a terrestrial orchid and should germinate in complete darkness. @ stefpix This Medium has the following ingredients: 1,5 g / l NPK (MSU) 20 g / l sugar 1 g / l activated charcoal 20 ml pineapple juice 1 ml / l Siapton L10 6 g Agar 1 l of demineralized water |
Very interesting! Look forward to your updates Roby.

This is very interesting. You got my attention.
|
I've had Habenaria protocorms at that stage die when I've moved them into light. I'd wait until the first leaf gets a couple of mm long before putting it in light.
|
Thanks!!! I will inform you about developments!
I have 4 flasks, so I can try different phases. Seems likely to be exposed to light after 6 or 7 weeks after germination. I have exposed to light one flask, for now only a very tenuous light! |
Update after 2 months
http://www.orchidboard.com/community...i-nov-2011.jpg no problem for the exposure to light :) other seeds have germinated :waving |
