vanda

Hi I have a vanda that has a baby shoot growing at the base of the mother plant, when can I remove this little one

Keiki should be showing at least a couple inches of roots before detatching from from momma. Lots of vanda growers here, you're sure to get some more advice

thanks for your help,I dont see any roots at all on the little green plant at the base

You have to wait till it has it's own roots. Than you can seperate them, and you have a new Vanda.
When the little one does not have any roots yet just let it be.

I have a 7 year old vanda with six basal keikis(one each year); I never touched it. When it flowers it gives a magnificent show...I suggest you just let it be; or let it establish roots for it to be independent of the mother plant then you can perform the operation with a sterile cutter.

will do, Nenella

Look forward to seeing it.

I agree with Bud. I would just let the keiki stay where it is. Trying to remove it places stress on both the keiki and the mother plant. Good luck.
