Hi Fredrico - it doesn't look like wardii to me, either, but it sure is a beautiful flower. How does it smell?
I'm sure that next year you will have a hundred flowers.
Regards - Nancy

I have to agree, it doesn't look like wardii....I'm not a stanhopea expert but the color is definitely different.

I'd say Stanhopea pseudoradiosa, but I've been wrong before.

Frdemetr is the expert on Stanhopeas so hopefully he can help!

Hi Jane!
I'm not a "expert" but just a studious amateur!
I think it's not a Stan wardii, but the color is not a criterion! Stan wardii often has a 'eye-spots' in the hypochil, but I have a clone without 'eye-spots'. Wardii has the petals folded backwards. I guess it is a plant within "saccata group" (Stans radiosa, pseudoradiosa or saccata itself), but I need a side view of the flower to confirm (showing the 'bag' - sac - in hypochil).
It's very difficult to apart the three species without fresh or pickled flowers in my hands, sorry!

It has the 'bag' Frederico! Of the 3 stans I've had over the years not one was labelled correctly

Jane,
The 'bag' is very clear, no doubts! Looking Dr Jenny's book, I found the following:
"[...] Stanhopea saccata [...] the gape formed by the epichile, the horns and the column is because of plication of the epichile much narrower than in Stanhopea radiosa[...]" In the pics of radiosa and pseudoradiosa the mentioned gape is larger than in your flower, so I guess your plant is a Stan saccata!
