Meet my babies :)

This is Peanut my Black Headed Caique. He's only 10 inches long but has the ego of an eagle!

and Poppy my Red Sided Eclectus hen who simply sits there looking stunning :) I'll get her a husband in a few months.

Beautiful birds. Are they talkers?

Kelo 08-12-2011 03:16 PM

Oh yes! LOL Peanut talks like there's no tomorrow. Never stops. People think that you have to sit for weeks on end repeating phrases over and over. Not true. They hear something once and BAM! it sticks lol. Peanut has acquired two undesirable phrases - not from me I hasten to add - and precisely when you don't want him to say them it's all that he says! :D

Poppy, on the other hand or is it mouth, is a true lady and minds her p's n q's! :)

Funny! Brings back memories...When I was a kid my neighbor was trying to teach her minah bird to greet her husband, Bob. She'd sit for hours saying "Hello Bob", but the bird refused to repeat the phrase. One day my dad, George, went over for a visit. When he knocked the neighbor yelled for him to come on in and when he did her bird said, "Hello George".

LOL! Typical! Mynah birds in Europe cost a small fortune now - maybe around $1,500 - $2,000+.

Wow! How times have changed.

I think they're on the CITES register now. Used to cost next to nothing too lol.

Vibrant colors!

Here's a pic of a true pair of Eclectus. There are about 12 subspecies. Biologists originally thought they were two separate species and you'll see why. there are minor/major variances in colour but every subspecies has the same basic colour! they are the only parrot you can tell the sexes solely by their colours. :)
