Desert Rose ~ Adenium obesum

Well, do you think my Desert Rose, Adenium obesum, is happy, happy, happy basking in the sun. I've read that some people have a hard time with this plant. So either I've been lucky, blessed or it ain't that hard to grow, especially if it's me that's doing the growing!!!!!:rofl::rofl: I think I'm going to find a different container... one that is more "bonsai". You think????? :scratchhead:

I have never heard that it is hard to grow. I see them planted everywhere around here in full sun. So up north I would imagine that in a pot you could just bring it out of the freezing cold in the winter but just keep it bright?

ooo! beautiful! I love these - need to try one someday
good growing!

I would agree that in your climate they should be very easy to grow. That is true about any plant that is grown in a "native" climate. I guess I should have been more specific about who has a hard time with this plant. The ones I've seen up north (Michigan) look nasty.

You should be able to do well with this in northern California. Might be a bit cool in winter to leave it outside. But lots of sun and water during the summer and you should have a nice plant. I got mine at WalMart in Florida because the ones in Michigan look horrid!

Because it must be a common plant down in Florida, even the Home Depot and Lowes carry them.... and cheaper than WalMart! About $10.00 to $14.00 for my size plant.

throw it in a bonsai pot and with a little refining, it would be awesome!

Wow, nice growing! Look at how happy and lush it is!

I just about killed mine--I think I kept it too wet and dark. It eventually started dropping leaves and now it's almost "bald." When I repotted it and found out it had a bad case of root rot. Speaking of fun sun, I'm wondering if it likes going outside? The only problem is that it's 100 deg today...in the summer it's usually in the 90s.
