My first mount!

Well, after seeing hundreds of pictures of various orchids mounted, I wanted to try my hand at at. Today I bike over to a local library, and since I was bored, I decided to head over to a pet store. Once I was there, I then got the idea of looking for wood to use for a mount, and I found a nice piece of cork for $10.

Here is the cork with galvanized wire to hang it up.

After adding a thin layer of sphag.

After tying the sphag down with elastic twine.

Here is the plant, a Brassavola Grand Stars.

It looks great! And such a healthy looking plant too! I'm sure it will love its new home.

Thanks! I am sure it will adapt and attach itself to its' new mount fairly quickly, as it has several roots growing now, and with the two new growths coming in, it should get another group of several new roots. I just cant wait to see it bloom, as I have never seen it before in person.

Where did you get it from? Clouds or Paramount?

FairyInTheFlowers 07-19-2011 08:53 PM

I bought it from the Society sales table in March I think? Since then it has grown two complete p'bulbs, and started the ones you see. It is a relatively fast grower, and I think that either these new ones or the one after this are going to have blooms.
