ORCHIDARIUM QUESTIONS

1 Attachment(s)
I am finally ready for a new project:idea: . Last year I purchased an oceanic fish tank with the following dimensions ( 21"H x 20"W x 18D ) that I would like to turn into an orchidarium/vivarium;) . I will be making a false bottom with a small pond with a watter feature. I have all materials ready exept for lighting. Very very concerned about lighting as I am not sure how much light I would need for my Den. Jenkinsii which I have currently growing outside in full sun:scratchhead: . I would also like to put some mini catts in the orchidarium.
Please help to figure out how much light I would need for these high light orchids. I live in NJ so my little Den. jenkinsii would eventually have to be brought in from outside:hmm .
Hese is a pic. of what I would like to have it look like but with a watter feature.

That looks nice. I currently use a system that holds two 65 watt 6500K power compact flourescent light tubes. I am using it to light my orchidarium/vivarium and I have managed to make my Slc. Mini Beau bloom.

This system is good enough to light the tank which is 26 inches tall from substrate to lights. And the Slc. is around 13 inches below the lights.

I think I have made up my mind and will go with the compact florescent.
I love the Slc. Mini Beau. I would like one too. Would you mind telling me where you got it from?
Thank you very much for your help. I will start keeping a photo journal of my progress.

Actually, it was a gift from a good friend. :)

That's a nice display. What are you mounting your orchids on?

Its insulation foam from the brand name "great stuff" which I sprayed onto the glass sides of the aquarium. Then I covered that with black aquarium grade silicone to affix mulched peat on to it. There is drift wood interspersed along the background that is held in place by the insulation foam.

I know I am late getting in on this discussion, but the question I have is WHERE O WHERE did you get that stunning piece of wood that you had the tillansdias (and now some orchids, I assume?) attached? I got a 20 gallon long fish tank for an early Christmas and am contemplating filling it...although my plants will be of the lower light varieties that don't like the heat of Central Texas' summers....the very ones I struggle with but HAVE TO HAVE!! Thanks for any updates or info. :bowing
